Investigators: CDEP Affiliate Suresh Naidu with Lauren Young and James Robinson
This project investigates the role of family networks in facilitating collective action to overthrow democracy. Using unique data from Haiti, including a list of participants in the 1991 coup against Jean-Bertrand Aristide, we look at the effect of centrality in intra-elite marriage and family networks on coup participation, the effect of the coup on staple products imported by these families, and the resulting impact on child nutrition.
